Illinois Contractor's Risk Management Association sponsored by RCEC
The preferred destination for best in class Illinois contractors.

For almost 20 years the RMA has provided a unique workers' compensation solution to a select group of Illinois contractors qualifying as best in class for risk management and financial strength. This solution provides the benefits and control of individual self-insurance while lowering fixed costs through group buying power. Qualifying as a self-insured insurance trust under the State of Illinois , RMA enjoys unparalleled financial strength and the security of excess insurers rated “A” or better by A.M. Best.

The program is managed by Assurance Alternative risks a wholly owned subsidiary of Assurance Agency Ltd. It is available direct or through Assurance Agency and selected brokers within the State. Assurance works with the Board of Director's to select claim, managed care, reinsurance and other professionals to manage the assets and operations. Members control their own individual claim funding account and make key decisions on claim strategy, settlements and even Attorney selection. RMA also boasts the most comprehensive safety and loss control programs serving the construction industry.

The program is open to Residential, Commercial and Industrial contractors of sufficient size to accept and fund defined levels of risk. Generally speaking if you are on a loss sensitive plan or are paying over $400,000 in worker's compensation premium you may qualify for the RMA program.

BENEFITS :

  • Cash Flow- RMA base rates are considerably below the industry. Members pay the expense portion of their indicated premium and a cash collateral amount to assure their payment of claim obligations. Members then fund claims on a paid basis.
  • Defined Risk- Each member has a defined plan maximum premium. Although assessments are possible members are responsible for only their percentage of any premium due in excess of plan. Reinsurance is provided to further limit upside risk.
  • Claim control- members along with Assurance claim Advocates work with an independent claim administrator hired by the members to control and manage claims. No more insurers settling without discussing
  • Loss control- Assurance safety consulting has served the RMA for over 16 years and has developed a suite of proven safety and inspection services that help keep member results better than industry.
  • Member Controlled- Members have a direct voice through participation on the executive and other committees. Quarterly all member meetings provide the opportunity for input and involvement.

For contractors who “get it”, the RMA will be the last worker's compensation plan you ever purchase. We invite you to learn more about the benefits of literally owning your insurance company. This represents a proven approach that has lasted through volatile insurance cycles and economic changes
